Deployment Distractions: Movies

Deployment Distractions: Movies, Series, and TV Shows One of the hardest parts for me, when hubby is gone on deployment or training is the evening and weekends when he normally would be home.  This time really can show his absence and one of the many things I like to do to fill the time is binge my favorite movies and TV series and find new ones to love. These are always a good fall back, as there's always an option for whatever mood I'm in.  I have left a few out that I sometimes can't bring myself to watch while hubby's gone. These include but aren't limited to South Pacific, Atonement, Perfect Sense, and sometimes some of the Captain America and Ironman movies. (I feel like this is for obvious reasons.) I've talked to a few others and there's always some movies that are temporarily abandoned while your certain someone is away from home. Below is a list of some of my favorite movies, series, and TV shows to watch and rewatch. Movies: T

Card Making: Making the Best of a Mistake

Card Making: Making the Best of a Mistake  Awhile ago, I had found what I thought was a great buy, until I got home and opened it and realized I simply got too excited in the store.  I found this Hallmark box set of 200 pieces - colorful cards and envelopes. Well, the envelopes are what I was expecting but the cards are more so post cards. To add to my initial irritation, the post cards are a little waxy as most markers I've used on them just sit on top. They do dry, it just takes longer than normal and I usually have to go over them again. Then I had a great idea. The envelope and card size are a little bit smaller than A2. And often I make my own card bases from colored cardstock - usually two per sheet of cardstock.  So why can't I make new folding cards to match these smaller envelopes? That's what I did. The new card size is 3 3/4 inch by 5 1/4 inch.  I can still get two cards out of a sheet of card stock. And the best part is

Book Making: Magazine Junk Journal

Image
Book Making: Making a Junk Journal It may be no surprise that I love art journals and junk journals. So I decided to make my own junk journal from scratch, well, from scrap magazine pages. For the main body of the journal, I'm using magazine pages that are glued two together. I then folded the new pages in half and put them into signatures of 4 each. I punched holes into the signatures about an inch apart.  After waxing the embroidery floss, I stitched the signatures together.  For the cover, I was going to use the cover an architecture magazine as it's thicker, but I ended up using two sheets of cut down 12 by 12 inch paper.  I liked the idea of using white paper so that I can properly have my way with the covers.  I can't wait to add gesso and paint and anything else my heart desires to these new pages. Happy creating, and happy paper crafting! For business inquires, contact me at: Kri

Batik Hexagon Quilt

Image
Batik Hexagon Quilt I cut the pieces for this quilt last summer and finally got around to completing the top!  I initially thought that I'd be able to make two lap quilts with these pieces, and I suppose I could have, but I went for one quilt about the size of a twin.  These colors and patterns are so beautiful and cheerful; just what I need right now!  I seriously can't get enough of this pattern. Initial lay out and figuring out the general size and number of blocks. The initial block design. Yes, I took this photo for reference, even though by the end of this, I could probably do this in my sleep. Full quilt top! Boo has fully claimed this quilt.  If it's out, she will be laying on it. Not that I can blame her, she looks amazing on it! I know it's just the top, and I haven't started quilting on it yet, but I wanted to celebrate it with you!  Right now, this one is at 5th or 6th billing for large quilts I will
