Art Journaling: Journal52 - Week 6

Journal 52 - Week 6 - Dream For this spread, I wanted the focus to be on the blue "cloud" or "rain" and to have the colors muted. I went for an Alice in Wonderland theme to play off of the prompt of 'Dream.'  I had intended to have more elements on this spread, but it ended up being more simple than I had originally intended.  The mushrooms, for me, are inspired by Alice in Wonderland and by the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films.  I ended up using lyrics from the song "Here comes the Rain Again" by the Eurythmics, which is one I love.  Originally, I had intended to have song lyrics from "Come Together" by the Beatles and to have it faded out underneath the "cloud" / "rain" element.  When working on it, I felt the pull towards the former song and let it take me away with it. And since moving back to the desert last April, I've been dreaming of rain almost constantl

February 2017 Book Haul

As I'm sure you all know, I can't help myself around books.  This month has been no exception and as hubby was working crazier hours than normal, there was no one there to stop me.  He also got four books for himself, so I wasn't the only one who gave into the temptation of books. Hubby got me these two which started out the month on a wonderful book note.  I've been wanting to read Neruda for awhile and figured it was about time.  I've been dipping in and out of these since I laid my eyes on them. These two were found at Barnes and Noble. These two, I really couldn't help myself.  These both seemed like great reads.  The one on military history is a subject matter I love reading about.  The "Readings in the Making of American Foreign Policy" is from the 60's and seems to be an old text book.  I thought with current affairs being as they are, it would be interesting to read something outdated but still relevant.

Art Journaling: Journal52 - Week 5

Journal 52 - Week 5 - Anticipate Journal52 's week 5 prompt is 'anticipate.'  This prompt was not my favorite and took me awhile to wrap my head around. In 2017 there are loads of things that I'm anticipating to the degree of worry. I am trying to lower the amount of stress in my life. So I tried translate a lot of the internal emotions I've been experiencing into a variety of the elements in this spread. I used muted colors of tea, beige, tan, and a soft grungy brown throughout the spread. On the right hand side there is a clock face, butterfly, green film strip from a 12" x 12" patterned paper that I cut down to size. I used scraps of legal text, old receipts, and a piece of vintage luggage ephemera. I used a FedEx package paper, legal book text, and an old receipts. I was originally planning on adding hidden journaling, but I decided to leave it out this time, as it was a hard process for me already. I primari

Art Journaling: Mission Inspiration, February 2017

Mission Inspiration - February 2017 February 2017: 1. Apply texture paste to your page. 2. Add colour with paint or spray. 3. Glue fragments of book or music text. 4. Glue patterned paper shapes. 5. Add hand journaling, scribbles, or quote. 6. Add a focal image or two or three! 7. Add Washi tape or paper strips. 8. Splatter with paint or gesso. This is how my page looked before I truly started.  It has a preliminary messy layer of hand made gray gesso, that was applied some time ago as it was left over from a previous spread.  I added some journaling over the whole of both sides.  With these two textures layered down, I started with the first step and added some home made white texture paste randomly over the page. For the second step, of adding color with paint or spray, I started with adding an acrylic paint in teal.  When that was dried, I added a bright pastel teal water color paint while focusing on making drips of it throughout

Art Journaling: Journal 52 - Week 4

Journal 52 - Week 4 - Listen To prep the pages, I first glued down some sheet music of "La vie en rose." Next I added torn bits of blue painter's masking tape that had white gesso on it from when I had used it as a mask for another art journal page.  I then added a mix of white gesso and black paint. I then added various water color pencils in deep blues and rust... ...before adding matching water color paints. I then added black text lightly throughout the page with a Pigma micron 03 pen, before going in with a soft black charcoal stick to add shadows and edging the pages.  I finished off the page with black water color splatters and the quote I printed, then edged with black ink.  Happy creating, and happy art journaling!
