Art Journaling: Journal52 - Truth

Journal 52 - Week 10 - Truth For this prompt, I wanted to do something different than my normal pages. I saw a lot of the beautiful pages that were put up on the Facebook page and I loved them, but I wasn't struck with inspiration yet.  So, I decided that instead of doing a slightly serious quote with my usual colors, I wanted to go outside my normal box.  I wanted to go in a funny direction and with colors that I normally don't use.  That's when one of my favorite quotes from That 70's Show came to mind: "There's this car, man. It runs on water man!" Naturally, I couldn't help myself.  To create the spread, I first put down a thin layer of watered down gesso in a swirling pattern.  I then took several oranges, yellows, greens, and a few teals to create the back ground.  I did several layers of water color washes and splatters to build up the pigments.  I used a large sharpie marker to do the text...

Art Journaling: Journal52 - Week 9

Journal 52 - Week 9 - Emerge For this art journal, I managed to keep the process and spread relatively simple.  To start, I glued down strips of different ads in blues, navy, and white, along with a logo from a paper bag. I then covered the whole spread with watered down white gesso. I then used water color paints in blues, with spots of black and teal. When that was dry, I stamped the phrase "When patterns are broken new worlds emerge" with a Martha Stewart stamp set.  I added small lines of circles and dots using a Micron 01 pen and a Sharpie.  I inked the edges with a black ink pad, date stamped and initialed it, to finish it.   Happy creating, and happy art journaling! Art Journaling: Journal52 - Week 7

Image
Journal 52 - Week 7 - Dawn To start this page out I went over the pages with a generic red ink pad and a Tim Holtz Distress ink pad in Dusty Concord. This worked well to disperse random blobs of color as the pages weren't perfectly flat.  I then added torn fragments of lined paper that had to lyrics to "From Eden" by Hozier in purple pen. I then went over that with the two ink pads again. It added a visual and physical texture that I really enjoyed.  Then I added the first layer of water color, only to then lightly cover the page with watered down white gesso.  I then added a second and then a third layer of water color paints. With the third layer, the colors finally popped like they did in my head when planning this page out. I tried doing the silhouette of the mountains with water color, but it started to bleed a bit and wasn't as opaque as I'd like, so I switched to bl...

Art Journaling: Journal 52 - Week 4

Journal 52 - Week 4 - Listen To prep the pages, I first glued down some sheet music of "La vie en rose." Next I added torn bits of blue painter's masking tape that had white gesso on it from when I had used it as a mask for another art journal page.  I then added a mix of white gesso and black paint. I then added various water color pencils in deep blues and rust... ...before adding matching water color paints. I then added black text lightly throughout the page with a Pigma micron 03 pen, before going in with a soft black charcoal stick to add shadows and edging the pages.  I finished off the page with black water color splatters and the quote I printed, then edged with black ink.  Happy creating, and happy art journaling!
