Deployment Distractions: Reading List

Image
Deployment Distractions: Reading List I think we can all agree that books are a great way to escape from life for a little while.  And as my reading has been somewhat irregular as of late, I thought I would put together a short reading list of big books that I can just sink into and forget about the world.  Most of these are books I haven't read yet but have been really wanting to for a long time.  The Biography of J.R.R. Tolkien: Architect of Middle-Earth by: Daniel Grotta One of the many biographies that I want to read.  As I'm sure you know, if you've seen my other book posts, I adore Tolkien and have since I was 11. Needless to say, when I saw this at a second hand book store, I was so delighted, and was smiling the whole way home. The Life and Times of William Shakespeare by: Peter Levi Along with Tolkien, I adore Shakespeare. I've watched many versions of his various plays, read many of his plays, and watched a few documentaries

Card Making: More Halloween Cards

Image
Card Making: More Halloween Cards   I got another set of Halloween themed stamps and this is the initial result of those stamps.  I tried to keep the cards simple with mostly just stamping. I have a few pre made black cardstock card bases and when I saw the little ghost stamps I knew this would be the perfect way to use them. I adore bats and purple so naturally this simple stamped card came about. The pumpkins and stars are just too cute! This simple stamped card is one of my favorites for this season. In the spirit of the pumpkin card, I had to make another ghost card with loads of stamping.  To fill in the extra spaces I added stars. For the envelopes, I added stars along the flap. And in the bottom corners on the front.  I try to minimize stamping on envelopes that are to go through the post. Happy creating, and happy card making! Card Making: Halloween Cards

Card Making: Halloween Cards For these festive Halloween cards, I wanted to keep the color palette bright and cheerful.  The cards were greatly inspired by graphic design layouts.  I also wanted to create my own patterned paper with various old Stampin' Up stamps.  For the papers, I used origami paper from happy mail.  It's a great way to add vibrant color without any of the bulk.  I used two purple card stock bases, one orange, and one black.  I might go and make a few more with different color card stock bases, as I can't get enough of these!   Happy creating, and happy card making! Giraffe Mini Quilt

Image
Giraffe Mini Quilt I started piecing this together in late 2016 and finished the quilting recently.  I made this mini quilt out of one inch by one inch squares as a gift for my mother.  Why one inch by one inch squares? I don't honestly know, but it was very fun and addictive.  I've now moved onto using the tiny squares in other quilting projects. I'm hooked. Pattern draft and squares / materials needed. I kept all of the one inch by one inch squares in a macaroon box. I then divided the squares into sections for easier piecing and distribution of colors.  The pink marker lines on the draft show the smaller sections.  I then cross labeled them by column and row, because evidently organization was key. I don't have any pictures from when I was piecing this together, but I assure you, lots and lots of string piecing was done. With the exception of the brown thread used for the brown squares, I used variegated thread for everyt
