Art Journaling: Mission Inspiration, April 2017

Mission Inspiration - April 2017 April 2017 (Photo courtesy of Mike Deakin ) For this month's mission, I had a hard time with it. What you'll see in this post is actually my second attempt at it.  I originally had this 'great' idea of swirls, deep forest green, hearts, possibly trees and a focal point of the Mad Hatter himself.  This started out alright, but then started to turn away from my idea when the green I started to use was more of a moss than a deep forest green. From there it ran away with me to the point that I'm now planning on covering that page an acrylic abstract piece. So without further ado, here is my second try at April's mission. For the first step, the page was already gesso-ed and I used two water based blue inks to stamp my background.  For the second step, I added a few simple lines of a warmer and cooler deep purple watercolor paint.  Where the paint meet the stamped images,

Hand Dyeing Papers

Image
I love using hand dyed papers for book making, art journaling, card making, junk journals, scrap booking, and pretty much any other paper crafting project I can think of. While hubby was away, I set time aside to do some serious crafting as well as some dye baths.  Tea dye baths to be more specific. I used a large tub from Ikea and various glass bowls from the kitchen to hold the tea bath water.  Since there's ample room in the garage, I staged almost everything in there.  This way, I didn't have to worry about the cats getting into anything and it's always a little warmer in the garage so it speeds up the drying time. I also spread out some old rag towels to lay the papers on so to not make too much of a mess. As far as papers go, anything is a possibility.  One time, I hand dyed over 40 sheets of printer paper and made a vintage inspired, blank book for hubby as a gift. This time, I'm using old book sheets, sketch paper, card stock scraps, and printer paper.

Happy Mail: April 2017

Image
- Happy Mail - from mom I received this in the mail a few days ago and was unbelievably happy when I opened it.  My mom had been going through her craft and card making stuff and sent me a bunch of stuff that she hasn't used or been using in ages.  There were various sized tags that made me very happy.  I have a few, but none like these. Stickers and rub-ons. Patterned paper in various sizes. Card stock in various colors and envelops. Various paper garlands. Quotes and phrases. So, so many natural fiber papers! I am so excited to go through these in more detail and use them in projects.  Happy creating, and happy paper crafting! Art Journaling: Journal52 - Week 12

Art Journal - Journal52 - Week 12 Balance The prompt of balance was a great opportunity to play with acrylic paints and create an ink splatter inspired butterfly.  I started with water color paints, then switched to acrylics for the majority of the spread, and used water color paints to create the frame around the spread.  There's solids, brights, darks, and metallics galore. Card Making: Easter Cards

Image
With Easter right around the corner, I thought it was a perfect time to make some simply elegant cards. I looked all over Pinterest for Easter card ideas. I did find a few that I thought were gorgeous, but I wanted to go for a simple, ephemera look.  For these cards, I used patterned paper, Martha Stewart alphabet stamps, and a black ink pad.  I told you I wanted to keep it simple.  These could also be made by layering different ephemera pieces, if you can't find a patterned paper that tickles your fancy.  Happy creating, and happy card making!
