Card Making: Dino November

Image
Card Making: Dino November  I have loved Dino November since I found out that it was a thing.  They're so cute and have been tempting me to buy dinosaur toys for years now.  In that spirit I found a stamp set from My Favorite Things.  It was on sale this summer, so I couldn't help myself.  I've been eyeing different dino stamps for a while, but these dinos just stole my heart. The envelopes are pre made and the cards measure 3 3/4 inches by 5 1/4 inches. For all of these cards, I went a little crazy with the envelopes.  I used stamps and dino stickers to decorate both sides.  I sent these off to hubby in a small care package, which is why I decorated the fronts of the envelopes so much. For the red card, I tried to mimic fossils because of the sentiment. I paper pieced the dinos and leaves, coloring them with Prisma colored pencils. The yellow card, is the only card that does not feature dinos.  I meant for it o...

Card Making: More Halloween Cards

Image
Card Making: More Halloween Cards   I got another set of Halloween themed stamps and this is the initial result of those stamps.  I tried to keep the cards simple with mostly just stamping. I have a few pre made black cardstock card bases and when I saw the little ghost stamps I knew this would be the perfect way to use them. I adore bats and purple so naturally this simple stamped card came about. The pumpkins and stars are just too cute! This simple stamped card is one of my favorites for this season. In the spirit of the pumpkin card, I had to make another ghost card with loads of stamping.  To fill in the extra spaces I added stars. For the envelopes, I added stars along the flap. And in the bottom corners on the front.  I try to minimize stamping on envelopes that are to go through the post. Happy creating, and happy card making! Card Making: Halloween Cards

Image
Card Making: Halloween Cards For these festive Halloween cards, I wanted to keep the color palette bright and cheerful.  The cards were greatly inspired by graphic design layouts.  I also wanted to create my own patterned paper with various old Stampin' Up stamps.  For the papers, I used origami paper from happy mail.  It's a great way to add vibrant color without any of the bulk.  I used two purple card stock bases, one orange, and one black.  I might go and make a few more with different color card stock bases, as I can't get enough of these!   Happy creating, and happy card making! Art Journaling: Mission Inspiration, April 2017

Image
Mission Inspiration - April 2017 April 2017 (Photo courtesy of Mike Deakin ) For this month's mission, I had a hard time with it. What you'll see in this post is actually my second attempt at it.  I originally had this 'great' idea of swirls, deep forest green, hearts, possibly trees and a focal point of the Mad Hatter himself.  This started out alright, but then started to turn away from my idea when the green I started to use was more of a moss than a deep forest green. From there it ran away with me to the point that I'm now planning on covering that page an acrylic abstract piece. So without further ado, here is my second try at April's mission. For the first step, the page was already gesso-ed and I used two water based blue inks to stamp my background.  For the second step, I added a few simple lines of a warmer and cooler deep purple watercolor paint.  Where the paint meet the stamped images, ...

Art Journaling: Journal52 - Week 11

Image
Art Journal - Journal52 - Week 11 Gentle This art journal was an old, barely used 2015 planner, and before I started working in it, I glued about half of the pages together to make then thicker and more sturdy.  With gluing, came selectivity for what I wanted to still be showing. For most of the pages that were left visible they were very similar looking: either a month layout or a week layout. However, for this particular page, I wanted to do something special and unique. This started as the month layout for March 2015, which has a special place in hubby and mine relationship when we were still dating. I barely used this planner, something that is uncommon for me, but the fact that this month had noted, relationship landmarks makes it special to me. To prep this spread, I did nothing , no gesso, nothing. It was weird, and new to do nothing, but I went with it. I added watercolor paint in blue, green, and purple directly to the page.  ...
