Card Making: Crossword Themed

Image
Card Making : Crossword Themed  These cards I included in a crossword themed care package that you can check out here .  As usual, I got a little carried away with most of the things in this care package and with the card designs.  With each care package I like to pre-make cards that match that I can fill out later. For the cards, I couldn't help but make a few.  I generally stuck with a vintage and crossword theme style for the cards.  I kept it all to a very monotone palette of browns, tans, and creams.  For the envelopes, I used two brown ink pads to add a few little bits, as I just can't help myself.  For the front of the envelope, I used a lighter brown and a Tim Holtz layering stencil to add some letter texture to the corners.  For the back of the envelope, I used the lighter brown ink for adding some numbers underneath the flap.  Over the flap, I used a darker brown ink and a newsprint stamp from Fiskars, to

Care Package: Crossword Themed

Care Package: Crossword Themed Hubby's gotten more and more into crosswords and word puzzles.  Which makes a perfect theme for a mini care package! In the box, I included two crossword books, new pens, a few sweets, hand made cards, and a few hand made crossword puzzles.  As usually, I got a little carried away with most of the things in this care package. To see the cards that I made specifically for this care package, I'll be posting a new post next week. Happy creating, and care package creating! Book Making: Deployment Gift

Image
Book Making: Deployment Gift Before hubby left for his deployment, I wanted to make him a notebook for whatever he wanted to use it for while he's gone.  I've made him books in the past, and he always finds a unique use for them that I never would have thought of. One of them, he's using to document native edible flora of all the places we've been too.  I'm sure he'll surprise me with what he ends up using this one for as well. To start, I took 40 blank, white, ordinary printer paper sheets and cut them down to 8 inches by 10 inches.  I then dyed the pages with loose leaf British Breakfast tea.  And folded them all in half with a  bone folder. This step isn't necessary, but I did evenly distributed the papers by texture and intensity of the dye that they took. This way I can more easily distribute papers evenly throughout the book.  I separated the sheets into three piles: one for splatters, one for wrinkle texture, and one for

Card Making: February Love Notes

Card making is one of the creative processes that I'm enjoying more and more. So, naturally I couldn't help but make a few Valentine's Day or Love themed cards. To make these, I started with pre-made blank white cards and envelopes. I then added stamping with red ink and a circle stamp, black text with an alphabet stamp set and black ink, and print outs from the computer as well as from patterned paper. To jazz them up further, I decorated the envelopes with the same red ink and circle stamp. I finished each card by running the red ink pad around the edges of the card.  I had far too much fun in making these simple but sweet cards.  Happy creating, and happy card making!
