Home Coming Gift

Home Coming Gift As this is mostly about the décor, there's a blog post that I made for the Mini Deployment Quilt Here that is in one of the bags displayed in front of the table.  For the banners, I found simply banner set at the craft store and block lettered the words "Welcome Home." I used the same red and blue acrylic paint to paint the stars too. For the tassels, I got two things of glittery yarn and made 30 tassels to add to the red, white, and blue theme.  As for the balloons, well, I couldn't help myself at that point. To put a 'cherry on top' I scattered tiny die cut stars around on the table and floor. I know I didn't need to go ham this, but I had more than enough time to play around with a big display for home coming. Needless to say, hubby was stunned and happy to see the display.  For the tower of beer, I just picked up a few of hubby's favorites. And in the two gift bags were random goodies including

50 Deployment Confessions

50 Deployment Confessions It's a listicle! Here, in no particular order, are 50 of my personal deployment confessions. Also known as, things that I did or happened while hubby was deployed. Enjoy! - having cereal for dinner - having pancakes for dinner - skipping dinner - having terrible sleeping habits; either 10 hours of sleep or 3 hours. - having days of being a hermit - binge watching my favorite shows - binge watching Shakespeare plays - binge watching my favorite actors and subtly/ not so subtly comparing them - truly embracing meal prep so that I could be lazy the rest of the week - hating cooking - loving cooking - cleaning every inch of everything - not wanting to leave the bed all day - crying myself to sleep - avoiding the phone - enjoying shopping by myself - enjoying going to the movies by myself - buying books as gifts for myself for each holiday - creating a blanket burrow on the couch for one - making a meal "for two"

Mug Rugs from Scraps

Image
Mug Rugs from Scraps While Hubby was down range I got the cleaning bug several times over resulting in several episodes of cleaning and reorganizing and sorting. One such time resulted in completely reorganizing my office / work space - including my fabric stashes. I sorted through all of the little scraps of random beautiful fabrics that I had and realized I could easily make several mug rugs with what I had on hand. In my first mini batch of mug rugs I made four. Even the backings and most of the bindings were already prepped as I have a bucket for extra bits of binding. As making mug rugs had been on my general to do list for a long time, I jumped at the inspiration that came with finding and sorting these scraps. I machine quilted these to help get used to a few new sewing feet.
