Art Journaling: Mini Mission - Aquatic

Image
Mission Inspiration - Mini Mission - Aquatic After taking a few weeks off of art journaling, I'm back! And the mini mission of aquatic was the perfect inspirational push I needed. I love octopi, so naturally this is where my mind went almost immediately when this prompt went live. For this spread I mainly used acrylic paints and a few sharpies to finish it off. I mixed a lot of blues and added some mat medium to make parts translucent to allow for layering.  I also slipped a pearl or shimmery acrylic light blue into this spread as I almost always want to use it, but never remember or manage to fit it into spreads. I used small and large bubble wrap to stamp paint throughout the spread.  This is my first time really using bubble wrap and loving the outcome.  To finish this spread off, I used black markers to silhouette an octopus. I could have used black paint, but I took the easy way of markers.  This was a quick sp

Long Term Reading Goals

Image
Since it's my birthday this week, and I'm a year older, but not sure about being a year wiser; I wanted to talk about books and book goals that I want to accomplish throughout my life time.  Read all of Tolkien's work I fell in love with his writing in 6th grade at the age of 11.  A long story short: a good friend told me the best lie I've ever been told while handing me her copy of The Hobbit and before I knew it, I was hooked.  Needless to say, I've read the Lord of the Rings and a few other books, by Tolkien but I can't seem to get enough. Finishing all of his writings is something that I've been longing to do for well over half of my life now. I'm working my way up to reading the Silmarillion, which when I found out how extensive it was, when I was in eighth grade, I figured it'd be better to read when I was more prepared to take it on.  I personally have two copies of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and hubby has one of his own - so in

Card Making: Father's Day Cards

Image
Father's Day Cards With Father's Day right around the corner, I couldn't help but make a few Father's Day cards. For this blue themed card, I started with using an alphabet stencil and blue ink to ink the background of the card.  For the main piece, I cut out "DAD" in a light blue, gluing them onto old book text, then gluing those squares onto another blue piece and centering it on the front of the card.  For an added touch I inked the edges of the envelope, simply because I can't leave things alone sometimes. For this card, I used a lot of book text and blue ink, again.  I used a circle stencil to cut out various sized circles and colored them blue with an ink pad and a finger blender tool.  For the "DAD" part, I used the same blue ink and a simple alphabet stamp set on book text.  I cut out each letter and glued them to a paint sample card in a matching blue. The inspiration for this card was definitely the pat

Creative Confessions, Part III

While I have been fairly active in various art projects, random projects around the house, and sewing... I really haven't painted in months.  I know I'm good at keeping myself busy with different projects, but even when I have extra studio time pop up I'm more inspired to work on other projects than pulling out a canvas and attacking it with acrylics.  This probably shouldn't worry me as much as it is. But I think it has been at the forefront of my mind because I consider painting one of my favorite past times even though I seem to hardly do it any more. Perhaps it's because it was one of my first loves of art. Studying and adoring different painters of the past and present only fueling my adoration of it all.  I'm hoping that the small, warm up sketch book will help with easing back into a regular painting habit again. I'm also thinking that focusing on my not painting is just another way that I'm trying to distract myself from all the other th
