I love that the categories for Non Fiction November are in pairs: I love a good duality.

Now, back to the categories, which are:

Category 1: Past time / Pastime

For Past time I have a book that is thematic to the majority of my reading this year: Medieval Nonfiction and Folk Lore. This book was actually one of hubby's many college books that I've taken to reading on the subject.


For Pastime, of course I've wandered to a few of my art themed books that I haven't gotten around to yet. I do have a few books on Van Gogh that I've read parts of but not their entirety, so if I'm feeling zealous, I might read those too. But for now:




Category 2: Self / Shelf

I have one for this category. And I imagine it's fairly obvious as I can't help myself around all things Paris and history and it's been on my shelf for a while now.




Category 3: Wander / Wonder

For Wander, I have another book that fits into my Medieval Nonfiction and Folk Lore reading of this year. It's a bit of a coffee table book, but it's gorgeous and chalked full of history. 

For Wonder, I have another one of hubby's college history books:




Category 4: Micro / Macro 

For this category I'm going loosely off of the micro part as this is a 'short history.'






Hopefully I can get through at least three of these books, lately the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness has taken my focus, not that I'm complaining.

Book Making: Making a Junk Journal It may be no surprise that I love art journals and junk journals. So I decided to make my own junk journal from scratch, well, from scrap magazine pages. For the main body of the journal, I'm using magazine pages that are glued two together. I then folded the new pages in half and put them into signatures of 4 each. I punched holes into the signatures about an inch apart.  After waxing the embroidery floss, I stitched the signatures together.  For the cover, I was going to use the cover an architecture magazine as it's thicker, but I ended up using two sheets of cut down 12 by 12 inch paper.  I liked the idea of using white paper so that I can properly have my way with the covers.  I can't wait to add gesso and paint and anything else my heart desires to these new pages. Christmas Mini Quilts - Getting the Most From 5 Fat Quarters

Christmas Mini Quilts Getting the Most From 5 Fat Quarters I've had a stack of five Christmas fat quarters for longer than I'd like to admit. Too many ideas filtered through my head until I finally decided on trying to get the most out of the fabric.  Since the pattern isn't specific to the holidays, this can be applied to any set of fabric. I cut all five fat quarters into four inch strips, and then into 4 inch squares, keeping all scraps to the side.  From this I separated them out first into the larger table runner using 36 squares, and arranging them into a rectangle of 4 by 9.  I decided to go with an angled pattern for the layout, but you could also place them randomly.  The finished size is 13 inches by 29 inches. This one fits well on the coffee table and the dining room table. 2016: A Quilting and Sewing Year in Review

Amidst a wedding, two moves, a promotion, a graduation, the adoption and lost of a kitten, and family visits, I have been lucky enough to have finished some smaller and larger quilting projects.  This is the most active I have been with sewing since early 2014 when I had some time on my hands after graduating college. Some of these pieces are Christmas gifts, and some of them just gifts. Some are finished tops, and some are completely finished, quilted pieces. Regardless, I am chocked at how much I have accomplished this year with my trusty sewing machine.
