Art Journaling: Journal52 - Week 3

Journal 52 - Week 3 - Strange

To prep the pages I first glued down strips of a brown paper bag.  The prompt of doing something strange with a known medium was fulfilled by my attempts to use gesso on a circle stamp.  It worked in the end, but at first I was expecting, for some reason for the gesso to be applied a lot smoother.  Instead it left a great texture which I wasn't planning on but worked even better.

I tried various water color paints and wasn't getting the color pay off as I hadn't gesso-ed or prepped the whole page.  I switched to acrylic paints of yellow, orange and purple. I had not previous used acrylic paint in art journaling but very much so enjoyed using it on this layout.

After spreading acrylic paint on with a flat large pallet knife, I went back to water color paints. Mainly adding yellow and a fuchsia toned purple to blend the back ground and take out any white left over.

I tried some splatters with the water color paints, but again I didn't get the color pay off I was hoping for.  The fuchsia toned purple water color splatters some what worked.  I ended up going back in with watered down yellow acrylic paint for splatters at the end after gluing down the phrase.

For the phrase, "Strange how we decorate pain" I typed it up, printed it out and cut it with scissors.  I then used various purple water colors to stain it in an irregular way.  I then used a purple distressed ink to ink the edges.  After gluing them down with matte medium, I layered first purple and then grey markers around them to make them pop.

Happy creating, and happy art journaling!
